Congratulations to the Class of 2024. You made it! *
*And for those seniors who are still plugging away on edits and revisions to your Senior Capstone projects, we see you. Hang in there. You’re almost there!
Our hearts are with you in these final days of your time at Washington College, as you spend precious time with friends and make plans for your next steps in life. In the coming days, many of you will be recognized for outstanding academic, athletic, and leadership accomplishments or for other contributions you’ve made to the Washington College community. Several of you will be in the spotlight as contenders for the Sophie Kerr Prize, still the largest literary prize in the country awarded to an undergraduate student. Just being able to submit a portfolio of writing for consideration is a remarkable achievement, and each of you will no doubt go on to use your writing talents in different ways throughout your lives.
Here’s a photo from our Digital Archive of Eleanor Roosevelt giving the Commencement address on May 25, 1942. Seated behind her on the stage are faculty, administrators, and guests, including College President Mead. Just above Mrs. Roosevelt’s mortarboard, you can see the magnetic eyes of none other than Sophie Kerr, looking directly into the camera!
Congratulations to ALL of our students on the completion of another academic year! Have a wonderful summer.
